1stAngel: When did you first become interested in art?
Karsten: When I was 2 and my father drew me an aeroplane on a small slate blackboard
1stAngel: What style of art do you use most?
Karsten: Realism
1stAngel: Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist?
Karsten: yes, many times

1stAngel: What medium do you use?
Karsten: oil paints, without airbrushing. pen and ink. color pencils. pastels. graphite pencil, biro, etc
1stAngel: What made you choose that medium?
Karsten: they’re easy to use. for me at least. and with oil paints the colors and tones, etc remain the same after it has dried, unlike some other paints.
1stAngel: Do your ideas come from life or imagination?
Karsten: both

1stAngel: How do you choose your images and colours?
Karsten: they just come to me…. out of my head, from nowhere, maybe something I’ve seen, glimpsed, heard
1stAngel: Who is your favourite artist?
Karsten: Norman Rockwell, Leonardo Da Vinci, Frank Frazetta, et al
1stAngel: What is your favourite piece of work by yourself?
Karsten: I don’t make favourites. I can tell you the worst, those that I’ve destroyed

1stAngel: How much time (on average) does it take to complete a work?
Karsten: anywhere from 1 month to 3 years. One took 7 years
1stAngel: How well do you take criticism?
Karsten: I’m used to rejection in art. I’ll take constructive criticism as long as it’s not based on personal taste.

1stAngel: What do you do to overcome a ‘block’?
Karsten: nothing. forcing it makes it worse. just do something else
1stAngel: How do you know something is ‘finished’? Is it easy to walk away?
Karsten: once I’ve signed it I make it a rule that that’s it. Otherwise I’ll never finish it.
1stAngel: Have you had exhibits in galleries?
Karsten: yes

Karsten: yes, although I can’t say exactly when
1stAngel: What are your plans for the future?
Karsten: That’s something I don’t discuss with anyone but myself
